August 31

In times of deep trial, the Christian finds nothing on earth to rely on, and must lean solely on God. When everything else fails, trust entirely in God's care and providence. What a blessing it is to be driven to such a solid foundation!

Often, our connection to God is hindered by our many friendships. But when a person is so desperate, friendless, and helpless that he has nowhere else to turn, he rushes into his Father's arms and finds comfort there. When burdened by troubles only God can understand, be thankful. You'll learn more about your Lord then than at any other time.

Believer facing storms, take heart that your troubles lead you to your Father! Now that God is your only refuge, trust Him completely. Don't dishonor Him with doubt and fear; be strong in faith and give Him glory. Show the world your God is worth more than anything.

Demonstrate to the wealthy how rich you are in poverty when the Lord is your help. Show the strong your strength in weakness when God holds you. Now is the time for great faith and bold acts. Be strong and courageous, and God will glorify Himself in your weakness and show His power in your distress. The beauty of heaven would be marred by a visible support, and your faith loses its brilliance if it rests on anything visible. May the Holy Spirit help you rest in Jesus as this month ends.

Closing Prayer

Lord, as this day begins, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. In Jesus' name, Amen.
