Faith is as much the rule for daily life as it is for spiritual life. We ought to have faith in God for our earthly affairs just as much as for our heavenly business. Only when we learn to trust God for every daily need will we live above the world.

Now listen carefully. We are not to be idle. That would prove we trust not in God, who is always working, but in the devil, who is the father of laziness. But we are not to be reckless either! That would be trusting in chance, not in the living God who is a God of wisdom and order. No. We act with prudence and integrity, and then we rely simply and completely on the Lord. At all times.

Let me urge you toward a life of trust in God for temporal things. When you trust in God, you will never have to mourn because you used sinful means to grow rich. Serve God with integrity. And if you achieve no worldly success? At least no sin will stain your conscience.

When you trust God, you will not live in self-contradiction. The person who trusts in cunning and deceit? He sails this way today and that way tomorrow, tossed about like a ship in fickle winds. But the one who trusts in the Lord is like a steamship. She cuts through the waves, defies the wind, and carves one bright, silver, straight track to her destined haven.

Be a person with living principles burning inside you. Never bow to the shifting fashions of worldly wisdom. Walk your path of integrity with steady steps. Show that you are invincibly strong—strong with the strength that only comes from confidence in God.

This is how you will be delivered from anxious care. You will not be troubled by evil tidings. Your heart will be fixed, trusting in the Lord.

Oh, how pleasant to float along the stream of God's providence! There is no more blessed way of living than a life of complete dependence on a covenant-keeping God. We have no worries, because he cares for us. We have no troubles, because we cast every burden on the Lord.

Closing Prayer

Today, act with wisdom and integrity in all your affairs. Then trust God with the results. Let him carry what you cannot control.
