Christ is everlasting. We can sing with David, "Your throne, God, is forever and ever." Rejoice, believer, in Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever. Jesus always has been. The Babe born in Bethlehem was united with the Word, which was in the beginning, through whom all things were made.
When Christ revealed himself to John in Patmos, he said, "Him who is, and who was, and who is to come." If he weren't God from eternity, we couldn't deeply love him or feel his share in the eternal love that is the source of all covenant blessings. But since he has existed with the Father from eternity, we can trace divine love to him equally with the Father and the Spirit. As our Lord always was, so he is forevermore. Jesus isn't dead. "He ever lives to intercede for us." Turn to him whenever you're in need—he's always ready to bless you. Jesus our Lord always will be.
Even if you live to seventy, you'll find his cleansing fountain still open and his precious blood undiminished in power. The Priest who filled the healing fount with his own blood lives to cleanse you from all sin. In your final battle, the hand of your conquering Captain won't grow weak; the living Savior will strengthen the dying saint. When you enter heaven, you'll find him there as fresh as ever.
Through eternity, the Lord Jesus remains the unfailing spring of joy, life, and glory to his people. Draw your living waters from this sacred well. Jesus always was, he is, and he always shall be. He is eternal in all his attributes and in his ability and willingness to bless, comfort, guard, and crown his chosen people.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as we end this day, help us trust you fully, even when we cannot see the way. For your glory, Amen.
