In his deepest distress, Job cried out to the Lord. When God's children are afflicted, their deepest longing is to see their Father's face again. Job's first prayer wasn't for healing from his physical disease or for the return of his children and property. His urgent plea was, "O that I knew where I might find Him, my God!" When the storm hits, God's children run home.
A true believer instinctively seeks refuge under God's care. "He that has made his refuge God" is a fitting description of a true believer. A hypocrite might resent God's correction and flee from Him. But a true child of God accepts the chastisement and seeks comfort in God's embrace.
Job's desire to commune with God grew stronger because he found no solace elsewhere. He turned from his unhelpful friends to seek comfort in God, much like a traveler hurries to a well when his water bottle runs dry. Earthly hopes failed him, leading him to cry out, "O that I knew where I might find my God!" We learn the value of God when we see the emptiness of everything else. When we turn away from the world's disappointments, we rejoice in God's faithful word, which is sweeter than honey. In every trouble, our first action should be to seek God's presence. With His smile, we can bear any burden with a willing heart for His sake.
Closing Prayer
Lord, as this day closes, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
