In this metaphor about a believer's inner life, we see secrecy. It's like a spring shut away, much like those in the East were hidden by a structure where only those with the secret key could enter. A believer's heart, renewed by grace, holds a mysterious life that no human skill can reach. It's a secret no one else knows; even the one who possesses it can't fully share it with others.

The text also speaks of separation. This spring isn't for everyone to drink from; it's special, marked with a king's seal. It shows ownership and distinction. So it is with spiritual life. God's chosen were set apart from eternity, in salvation, and by a life others don't possess. They can't feel at home in the world or enjoy its pleasures.

There's also sacredness. The enclosed spring is reserved for someone special, like a Christian's heart is kept for Jesus. Every believer should know they bear God's seal and, like Paul, say, "Let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus." Another key thought is security. How safe is the believer's inner life! No power on earth or hell can destroy it, because the giver of this life promised to protect it. And who can harm you when God is your protector?

Closing Prayer

Jesus, as dawn breaks, help us trust You fully, even when the path isn't clear. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
