God's promises were never meant to be filed away like junk mail. He meant for them to be used. God's gold is not locked in some miser's vault—it's currency, minted to be spent! Nothing delights our Lord more than seeing his promises put into circulation. He loves it when his children bring them right up to him and say, "Lord, do as you have said."

We glorify God when we plead his promises. Do you think God will become poor by giving you the riches he promised? Do you dream that he will be any less holy for giving holiness to you? Do you imagine he will be any less pure for washing you from your sins? He has said, "Come now, let us reason together: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

Faith grabs hold of that promise of forgiveness and doesn't hesitate. It doesn't stand there wondering, "What a beautiful promise. I wonder if it's actually true?" No! Faith marches straight to the throne and declares, "Lord, here is your promise. Do as you have said." And our Lord answers, "Let it be done for you according to your faith."

Listen: when a Christian finds a promise and doesn't take it to God, he dishonors him. But when he rushes to the throne of grace and cries, "Lord, I have nothing to commend me but this: You said it!" Then his request will be granted. Our heavenly Banker delights to cash his own checks. Never let the promises gather dust. Draw the sword of promise from its sheath and wield it with holy violence.

Don't think for a moment that God grows tired of you importunately reminding him of his promises. He loves to hear the desperate cries of needy souls. It is his joy to pour out blessings. He is more ready to answer than you are to ask. The sun never grows weary of shining. The fountain never tires of flowing. It is God's very nature to keep his promises.

So go! Go right now to the throne with these words: "Do as you have said."

Closing Prayer

Take that promise you've been holding onto—the one you've been afraid to really believe. March to the throne today and say it out loud: "Lord, do as you have said."
