January 16

This morning, listen. The Lord Jesus is speaking directly to you: "I will help you."

"It is a small thing for me, your God, to help you. Consider what I have already done. What! Not help you? Why, I bought you with my blood. What! Not help you? I died for you; and if I have done the greater thing, will I not do the less? Help you! This is the least thing I will ever do for you. I have done more, and I will do more.

Before the world began, I chose you. I made the covenant for you. I laid aside my glory and became human for you. I gave up my life for you. And if I did all this, I will surely help you now. When I help you, I am simply giving you what I have already purchased for you. If you needed a thousand times more help than you do, I would give it. What you need is nothing compared to what I am ready to give. It may be much for you to need, but it is nothing for me to provide.

'Help you?' Fear not! If an ant came to the door of your storehouse asking for help, it would cost you nothing to give him a handful of grain. And you? You are nothing but a tiny insect at the door of my infinite storehouse. I will help you."

O my soul, is this not enough? Do you need more strength than the all-powerful Trinity possesses? Do you want more wisdom than exists in the Father, more love than flows from the Son, more power than moves through the Spirit? Bring your empty pitcher here! This well will fill it to overflowing.

Haste, gather up your needs and bring them here. Your emptiness. Your sorrows. Your desperate wants. Look! This river of God is full for your supply. What else could you possibly desire?

Go forward, my soul, in this strength. The Eternal God is your helper! "Fear not, I am with you, oh, be not dismayed! I—I am your God, and will still give you aid."

Closing Prayer

Whatever impossibility you're facing today, remember: the One who died for you considers helping you the least he could do. Bring him your empty pitcher.
